TOGETHER WE ARE CHANGING LIVES
There are many requirements for home ownership and it all starts with gainful employment. That is why First Community Mortgage launched the Multicultural Lending Initiative and has partnered with Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennesse to offer Lunch and Learn Sessions to help others find a pathway to home ownership. These sessions are designed to guide future homeowners with a personalized orientation of the home buying process. Taught by dedicated professionals these sessions will help future home-buyers answer any questions pertaining to home buying, financing, and the application process.
How your donations create change
When you donate things like clothes, furniture and toys to Goodwill, you help provide jobs and free job training services for thousands of Tennesseans.
First, each item is handled by a donation attendant. Nine out of 10 of Goodwill’s employees come to the nonprofit for assistance with barriers to employment, such as disabilities or a lack of skills. The journey continues with each piece being processed by Goodwill employees for resale. Donated items are racked and hung and sent out onto the floor of our retail stores for resale.
Once each item sells, with the help of our retail staff, the revenue, supports Goodwill’s community-based employment and training programs. Thanks to you, these programs provide free classes and on-the-job training every year for thousands of individuals in our communities facing barriers to employment
The bottom line? When you donate, your donations become an investment in the futures of the thousands of individuals.

Guidelines For Donating

- Donating to Goodwill is easy, just follow the steps below to assure you get the most from your donation experience
- 1. Donations should be in good condition
- 2. Donate during our operating hours
- 3. Keep your donation receipt for tax purposes
- 4. For a list of recalled items visit CPSC.gov
Donations of Recalled Items

- We ask donors to please refrain from donating recalled items that have been deemed unsafe by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Our three-tier assessment system ensures these items do not get sold.
- 1. View a list of recalled items here
- 2. Donation attendants will not accept any toy or item they know has been recalled
- 3. All donations are sorted before being sold. Items deemed unsafe are sent to our salvage department to be destroyed or recycled.

- Follow these easy steps each time you donate to assure you have a complete record of all the items you have donated to Goodwill come tax time. Based on IRS regulations, it’s up to donors to document the value of their donations.

- 3. Record what each item is worth.
