A three-bedroom home seemed perfect for the Mayfield family when it moved from Welch, Oklahoma to Mt. Juliet, Tennessee three years ago.  But what was a five-member household quickly grew to include a new baby after the move.  Mom Kama and dad Travis planned to make the garage into a third bedroom but a toddler and a newborn didn’t leave them time to do more than feed, bathe and play with their children.

Before - Bedroom 1 Before - Bedroom 2

Kama Mayfield entered Goodwill’s Project Organize 2009 and pictures of her cluttered garage and bedrooms convinced our judges that her home needed our help.  Mayfield won a free session with professional organizer Tanna Clark of Complete Organizing Solutions, valued at $500.  Clark spent the day at the Mayfields helping to clear the clutter and clean their spaces on Monday, November 9.  Maid Brigade also donated a free home cleaning, valued at $200, which took place after Clark finished her work with the family.

Clark’s advice to anyone who wants to organize spaces within their home is to divide the clutter into three piles; one to keep, one to throw away and the third to give to Goodwill.  She says her goal is to, “help people reach their organizing potential.”

WSMV (NBC) in Nashville was at the Mayfield home as Clark helped organize the two bedrooms and the garage.  Look for more information in the Spring about Project Organize 2010.
