CLUTTER AWARENESS WORKSHOPS TO BE OFFERED JULY 9

Expert to Offer Solutions, Guidance for Chronic Disorganization, Hoarding

(Middle Tenn.) — A professional organizer will conduct three workshops designed to help people whose lives have been complicated or compromised by clutter.

Clutter Awareness Workshop Day will be Saturday, July 9, at Goodwill’s Lifsey Center, 937 Herman St., Nashville. Susan Gardner, a professional organizer and chronic disorganization and hoarding specialist with the Institute for Challenging Disorganization, will lead the sessions.

The first workshop from 9-10:15 a.m. will examine the topic, “How Much is is Too Much?” The second session from 10:45 a.m.-noon is titled, “When Another Person’s Stuff is My Dilemma,” and the final session from 1-4 p.m. is called, “Alternatives to Nagging, Pleading and Threatening in Hoarding.”
The first two sessions are free. Cost to attend the final session is $60 per household or situation.

The workshops are designed to be helpful to those struggling with their own clutter or family members or friends concerned about the clutter of someone else. Participants will hear possible solutions to ongoing problems and have the opportunity for discussion in a safe, guided setting.

As a self-described “recovering clutterer,” Gardner understands that initial steps toward overcoming clutter can be the most difficult, and she attempts to connect with participants through realistic empathy.

“I just want people to know that change can happen,” she said. “The healing journey opens up new resources, and there are real ways for people to experience change when they desire it.”

Those interested in attending should register at clearingthewayhome.com/events by Tuesday, July 5. More information can be obtained by calling (615) 477-9795.

Goodwill turns people’s unneeded clutter, such as gently used clothing, shoes, books, furniture and household goods, into numerous free services for those seeking work and other activities that benefit the community.
