BE GREEN & SAVE GREEN: GOODWILL CELEBRATES EARTH DAY

On April 22, Nonprofit To Hold Storewide Half-Off Sale & Give Donors BOGO Coupon; Festival To Include Donation Drive

Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee will celebrate Earth Day — Sunday, April 22, 2018 — and the role its donors and shoppers play in protecting the environment, by offering everyone money-saving opportunities.

Goodwill will hold a storewide half-off sale on Earth Day at all of its 33 retail stores. All merchandise, including clothing, linens, toys, books, kitchen wares, decor and other home goods, will be sold for 50 percent off. Also, everyone who donates to Goodwill on Earth Day will receive a buy-one, get-one free coupon for later use in Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee stores.

Goodwill is a nonprofit, social enterprise that sells donated goods in its stores to change lives through education, training and employment across 48 Tennessee counties. It is also one of the state’s greenest organizations.

Last year, Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee processed more than 37 million donated items for sale in its stores. By selling these items, Goodwill extends their useful life cycle and keeps them from being thrown away. Even donations that cannot be sold provide value for Goodwill’s mission and help preserve the environment. In 2017, Goodwill kept more than 32 million pounds of materials out of landfills through recycling and other efforts. The nonprofit’s recycling of cardboard and paper pulp alone saved more than 47,000 trees from being cut down.

Donating to Goodwill is a convenient way for people reduce clutter in their homes while earning a tax deduction, helping others in their communities and keeping Tennessee green. Goodwill has more than 70 Donation Express Centers across Middle and West Tennessee.

Also in observance of Earth Day, Goodwill will accept donations of gently used clothing, shoes and books at the 17th Annual Nashville Earth Day Festival on Saturday, April 21 at Centennial Park. Goodwill will have a tent at the event, and attendants will be ready to accept donations from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., providing festival-goers with a convenient way to reduce clutter in their homes while earning a tax deduction and helping others. The festival runs from 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

The festival is a free, family-friendly event drawing thousands of people for live music entertainment, such as headliners “The Monets,” exhibits and other activities aimed at educating area residents about protecting the environment. Goodwill joins Piedmont Natural Gas in sponsoring the event and is one of numerous community groups, environmental organizations and government agencies expected to participate.
