If you missed the premiere of the original musical, "My Catskills Summer," you missed a raucous, funny and well-dressed cast! The musical, written by Jay Kholos, debuted in Nashville with Barry Williams, best known for his role as Greg Brady on TVs, "The Brady Bunch." Williams stars as an 88-year-old grandfather who longs to leave the Catskills and return to his beloved Manhattan. Willliams and his castmates wore costumes purchased from Goodwill, while the set was also decorated with items that came from Goodwill. The musical is set to begin touring the country and is scheduled to land in New York in early 2011.
The show takes place in the mythical Hotel Belsky in the Catskill Mountains in the summer of 1954. Kholos partnered with Goodwill to buy the show’s 1950s-era props and costumes. Those items will be used throughout the show’s run to New York. Kholos also plans to restock props and costumes throughout the show's tour through local Goodwill retail stores.
“Goodwill is the greatest source I’ve ever seen as far as availability of costumes and props,” says Kholos. “This is a dream come true for me, as a theatrical producer, with such a large inventory of items to choose from. The cast will look amazing!”
