Steven

Steven

Each morning, faithfully and without fail, Steven hung the flag in front of the Goodwill headquarters. It might seem like a simple thing, but it was a slow and arduous task for the man confined to a walker. He measured the march to the flagpole a few feet at a time and balanced himself between walker and pole to hoist the colors.

Steven’s love of the flag was an expression of his love of country, a country he served in the Navy. For the last six years, since the day our flagpole was erected in the wake of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Steven was in charge of raising our flag. No one could raise a flag quite like Steven could. Because with it, he raised our spirits.

On January 29, 2007, Steven stepped free from the confines of this earth. He left behind two children and two beloved granddaughters, his mother and father and two brothers. He also left behind a church family and a family of co-workers who loved him and miss him dearly.
