Job Placement Services

Goodwill Career Solutions provides free job search and direct job placement services. During the COVID-19 pandemic, adjustments have been made to schedules and programs at our eight Career Solutions Centers in middle and west Tennessee to ensure the health and safety of our employees and clients. In-person services resumed on June 8. Walk-in visitors are welcomed from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday-Friday. Services are provided by appointment only from 8-11 a.m. and from 3-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Virtual and phone services, which were offered even as centers were closed due to COVID-19 precautions, also remain available. The two-day office productivity skills class is an introduction to the Microsoft Office Suite and Google G-Suite. This course gives the student a brief overview and working knowledge of, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs and Google Sheets in order to prepare them for the business world. Clients will work on a small project during class, allowing hands-on practice.

Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee has kicked off a free training program with Google and Coursera, a leading online education provider, to help learners acquire the skills they need to start a career in information technology. With cutting-edge courses, hands-on labs and more, the Google IT Support Professional Certificate is designed to take beginning learners to job readiness in eight to 12 months.

A three-month class, Microsoft Office computer training course delivered in an online-blended format, designed for advanced computer users. Fees apply for this program. Occupational Skills Classes

Career Solutions offers specific occupational skills classes, all in Nashville, that are geared toward giving participants quality training and qualifications in a specific field. Upon completion, participants will have the skills for entry-level jobs in their respective course of study.

Career Solutions offers a call center training program that is a 4 week course teaching participants how to manage and respond to incoming phone calls from customers. This program provides the opportunity to obtain the necessary knowledge and experience needed to flourish in a call center environment. The call center training program is designed for entry-level workers interested in customer service positions at call centers in an office environment.

Career Solutions offers a nationally certified construction training program providing classroom and hands-on training to those interested in a construction career. This 4 week National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) certified course, covers 9 basic areas: safety, construction math, hand and power tools, blueprints, rigging, communication and employability skills. Upon completion, participants receive NCCER certification.

OSHA 10 Construction Training is available immediately following each 4-week NCCER class at a discounted cost of $100 to graduating NCCER students. The OSHA 10 Construction Training is available to the public at a cost of $185.

Career Solutions offers a custodial program, which is four- week class and includes both classroom and hands-on training. The program is designed for front-line custodians and teaches basic and advanced skills in all areas of commercial building cleaning.

Goodwill offers a one-week, FREE hospitality training program for individuals interested in pursuing a career in the hotel and restaurant industries. This training program offers two nationally recognized certifications from the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) and hands-on training. Students also will receive training in digital literacy, computer skills, resume building, interviewing and workplace communication. Students also receive hands-on training and two-day job shadowing experience. Goodwill will assist graduates of the program with employment opportunities.

Youth Programs

Opportunity Now

A Year-Round Program For 16- To 18-Year-Olds

Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee, Inc. is a provider for the Opportunity NOW program funded by the Metropolitan Government’s Opportunity NOW initiative. This program offers the city’s youth with opportunities to learn about the skills employers need and how to be a responsible employee. It also allows them to gain experience while working in various types of business settings.

Goodwill provides year-round services in the school setting for high school students in Davidson County between the ages of 16-18 years. During the school year, Goodwill provides services to schools located in the Northwest District of Nashville Metropolitan Schools. Students are provided with job readiness training, assistance in learning about part-time job opportunities and how to submit job applications and other support services that prepare them for employment and/or post-secondary education.

During the summer months, high school students are placed in paid internships with participating employers to give the students a realistic experience in business sectors.

Experience Work

A Summer Program For Students Ages 14-16

Goodwill’s Experience Work program is a six-week summer program open to rising ninth- and tenth-grade Davidson County students (ages 14-16) seeking experience in the workforce. The program exposes students to multiple job descriptions and environments and allows them to gain valuable work experience. Work cohorts will include:

Entrepreneurship, Culinary, STEM, Retail, Digital Literacy

Students will spend 20 hours per week (four hours per day Monday-Friday) in the program at various locations throughout Davidson County. Participants will earn $8 per hour while learning job skills. All students must attend a payroll orientation.

The program is funded by the Nashville Metropolitan Government. Goodwill is a sub-contractor through the Nashville Career Advancement Center.

Summer Work Program

Helps youth ages 16-22, who are still in high school and who may have a disability or face other obstacles, to engage in part-time, paid work training for up to six weeks each summer. The Summer Work Program is offered in Davidson County only. Individuals from surrounding counties that can come to Davidson County are welcomed to apply.
