Want to learn how to use the computer? Career Solutions offers three computer classes for those who want to learn basic skills and those who already know how to use a computer but want more advanced skills.

The Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3), is an instructor-led three-week class, designed for the intermediate computer user. IC3 will prepare the client for a foundation of computer and Internet knowledge needed to succeed in the workplace.

The three-day Microsoft Office Intro class is an introduction into the Microsoft Office suite. This course gives the student a brief overview and working knowledge of PowerPoint, Word and Excel in order to prepare them for the business world. Clients will work on a small project during class, allowing hands-on practice. Clients are enrolled and shown how to use Microsoft IT Academy, which allows for continued learning after course completion.

Occupational Skills Classes

Career Solutions offers specific occupational skills classes, all in Nashville, that are geared toward giving participants quality training and certifications in a specific field. Upon completion, participants will have the skills for entry-level jobs in their respective course of study.

Career Solutions offers training for those interested in pursuing a career in the ever-changing field of Administrative Assisting. This two-week course provides participants with an overview of both the wide array of opportunities available and the vast array of duties performed. Clients will participate in discussion sessions, group activities, and complete a project, which is designed to bring into focus the numerous skills required for success on the job.

This six-week National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) certified course, covers eight basic areas: safety, construction math, hand and power tools, blueprints, rigging, communication and employability skills. Upon completion, participants receive NCCER certification.

Career Solutions offers a food safety training and certificate program for individuals interested in hospitality careers. Clients must attend a three-hour course taught by a ServSafe-certified instructor and complete the ServSafe Food Handler’s test for successful completion. This training gives individuals the knowledge they need to succeed in this career path. Upon completion, individuals will receive a ServSafe Food Handler Certificate of Achievement. Most restaurants and hotels require staff to learn safe food handling practices.

Career Solutions offers an OSHA approved forklift certification program that is a three-hour course including classroom instructor-led training and hands-on training using a forklift. This program is designed for participants interested in forklift operator positions in warehousing and manufacturing industries. Upon completion of the OSHA-approved materials and hands-on forklift training, clients will receive a certification of completion valid for three years. Career Solutions offers a certified instructor-led, one-day security guard certification course in which participants learn legal powers and limitations of a security guard/officer, emergency procedures, and general duties and insurance. Upon completion, participants are ready to apply for licensure as a State of Tennessee Unarmed Security Guard issued by the Tennessee Department of Commerce.

The Tennessee Alcohol and Beverage Commission server permit, or ABC class is a one-day, 5-hour class conducted by a Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) authorized instructor; covering responsible beverage service and alcohol awareness through the TopShelf program. 

Completing the class and passing the required test (80% or higher) qualifies the participant as eligible for the 5-year Server Permit issued by the TABC.  The state of Tennessee requires a server of alcohol to obtain this permit in order to serve liquor by the drink.

This four-week course provides participants with the training to succeed and a nationally recognized certification by which participant’s standards are measured.

Customer Service Classes

Career Solutions offers customer service classes, available at all Nashville-area Career Solutions centers and at several centers outside Nashville. The classes are designed to prepare participants for entry-level jobs in a variety of customer service positions.

Career Solutions offers a call center training program that is a 6 week course teaching participants how to manage and respond to incoming phone calls from customers. This program provides the opportunity to obtain the necessary knowledge and experience needed to flourish in a call center environment. The call center training program is designed for entry-level workers interested in customer service positions at call centers in an office environment.

Transitional Employment Services

Intensive job readiness
services for people with disabilities

Career Solutions offers a program for people with disabilities who may need more time to adapt into the world of work. For individuals with a documented physical, mental or emotional disability, the Transitional Employment program offers intensive job readiness services, during which participants learn skills needed to integrate into the world of work. Participants learn to work both independently and in a team environment and gain marketable skills.

Some participants may train up to three months in a specific paid or unpaid training program at Goodwill while others will be assisted with direct job placement services within the community. Training areas include retail/customer service, office occupations, custodial, security guard, construction, health care, donations or production/warehousing.

During the initial appointment with a Transitional Employment staff, participants should be prepared to:

  • Provide medical documentation of the person’s disability
  • Identification information verifying eligibility for employment and wage
  • Complete an intake application
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen

Youth Programs

Summer Integration Program

Offers children ages 6-15, with a diagnosis of autism, recreational day camp activities for six weeks during the summer.

Summer Work Program

Helps youth ages 16-22, who are still in high school and who may have a disability or face other obstacles, to engage in part-time, paid work training for up to six weeks each summer. The Summer Work Program is offered in Davidson County only. Individuals from surrounding counties that can come to Davidson County are welcomed to apply.

The TRAC Program

(Training in Retail Associate Certification Program) Teaches students ages 14-18 job readiness skills, problem-solving skills, computer skills, CPR/First Aid certification and other social skills to help them learn more about transitioning from school to work.

Youth Building Goodwill

Youth Building Goodwill is a free job readiness program designed to not only prepare young adults (ages 17-25) to meet current employment needs, but to also equip them for future employment with relevant job skills and values employers seek. A high school diploma is not required.
