Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee is celebrating National Workforce Development Month throughout September.
At a time when millions of people are looking for work, Goodwill is committed to doing its part in responding to the gap in employment and skills training and supporting those who face barriers to finding employment.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor’s latest jobs report, nationally, unemployment is currently at 3.8 percent. Still, millions of workers across the country struggle with underemployment and low wages, and more than 8 million jobs currently remain unfilled. Tennessee’s current statewide unemployment rate is 3.1 percent, according to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development. For the Nashville-Murfreesboro-Davidson-Franklin region, the unemployment rate is 2.7 percent as of August 2023.
During 2022, Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee placed 981 people in jobs in our local community and around the country. Overall, Goodwill Career Solutions centers helped 10,935 people with a variety of employment needs.
From résumé building and interview preparation to connecting job seekers to local employers and community colleges, Goodwill’s range of services is changing lives every day.

Since Goodwill began more than 120 years ago, the sale of donated items in its retail stores has funded job placement and training, skills development for career advancement, and other necessary support services for people looking to learn skills and advance their careers.
