Brent worked as a truck driver for years, hauling goods across the United States — until five years ago, when he suffered a torn retina. He underwent seven surgeries to repair the retina, but all were unsuccessful; he’d completely lost sight in his right eye.

His impaired vision also meant losing the career he loved, and he fell into a period of depression.

Eventually Brent saw the opening for a switch truck driver position at Goodwill online and applied. Now he works as a transfer truck driver at Goodwill’s Nashville campus.

He appreciates his job because it lets him do what he loves and allows him time with his family. Says Brent, “Goodwill gave me the opportunity to go back to what I enjoy.”
