DONATE FORWARD WEEK HAS COME TO A CLOSE

Each day, during this week, we asked our supporters to donate and shop a little extra so we could increase our impact on others and our environment. The calculators below show how a week’s worth of donations provides paid productive work for people with disabilities and others with barriers to employment. It also shows how every donation you make is diverting materials from entering our landfills and instead are being reused by others and recycled – making a big impact on our environment. Thank you for donating to and shopping at Goodwill. You are truly helping us change lives.

DONATIONS IMPACT

We had a great week with hundreds of thousands of donations. During Donate Forward Week (April 3-9, 2017) we received an enormous amount of donations that will go a long way towards helping Goodwill to make a big impact in the lives of others and preserve our environment.

With each donation to Goodwill, you are helped keep clothing, textiles, and electronics out of our landfills. Goodwill extends the life cycle of donated items by reselling them to others who will use them. Items that are too damaged for resale in Goodwill’s stores are recycled.

How your donations create change

When you donate to Goodwill, things like clothes, small appliances, furniture, and toys, start to help provide jobs and free job training services for 1000’s of Tennessean’s

First, each item is handled by a donation attendant, many of whom may have some barrier to employment. The journey continues where each piece is processed by Goodwill employees for resale, many of whom have disabilities or other disadvantages. Your donated items are racked and hung and sent out onto the floor of our retail stores for resale.

Once each item sells, with the help of our retail staff, again many of whom have come through our job training programs, the revenue from that sale supports our community-based employment and training programs. Thanks to you, these programs provide thousands of hours of free classes and on-the-job training to thousands of individuals in our communities who have an economic, educational, social or vocational barrier to employment.

The bottom line? When you donate, your donations become an investment in the futures of the thousands of individuals.
