14 Apr After Injury, 70-Year-Old Plumber Finds New Purpose with Goodwill’s Help
Tim Martin, a 70-year-old resident of Toone, Tennessee, never imagined he’d need help to get a job in plumbing. Martin spent most of his career working in the field and even owned a successful plumbing business.
When an injury put him out of work for weeks, Martin knew he would need some help getting back into the workforce.
The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development referred Martin to Goodwill Career Solutions in South Jackson. He met with a Career Coach who helped him fill out job applications.
“I really appreciated it because I’m not very good at writing and have never really had to look for a job in the traditional sense before,” Martin said.
With help from Goodwill Career Solutions, Martin secured well-paying employment as a Plumbing Manager with McCoy’s Heating and Air.
Even with many years of experience in the field, Martin said he’s never had to fill out job applications, which can be a daunting task.
“I’m just really not great at technology, so they helped me a lot,” Martin said. “I plan on taking more computer courses through Goodwill and thank them for their help in getting my current job.”
Martin said he frequently refers job seekers to Goodwill Career Solutions who may need some guidance or want to brush up on their computer skills.
“I’m always telling folks about what Goodwill does to help people find employment and take care of their families,” Martin said.
