23 May Spotlight: Transitional Employment Services and Mental Health
May is National Mental Health Awareness Month. People who have mental health issues often feel embarrassment or fear, thinking others may know that they have some type of mental illness. Many do not seek assistance for fear of being labeled and privately suffer alone instead of reaching out for help. For those who have sought out help, the stigma of a diagnosed mental illness has created barriers for some people in need of work. Goodwill’s Transitional Employment Services program has assisted hundreds of individuals with a mental health diagnosis find meaningful employment.
While many individuals with a mental health issue may need to be more closely monitored, even more people with mental health issues work, play, and contribute in their community in positive ways every day. As with any illness, when a person has treatment that works for the condition, that person gets better. And when you feel good about yourself, you can do things that make a difference to all who are around you.
If you have been diagnosed with a mental health issue and are having trouble looking for work, we may be able to help. Contact our Transitional Employment Services for more information.
