17 Nov Project Organize: The Finalists
We’ll announce the winner of our Project Organize contest on Wednesday, November 21. In the meantime, we’d love to share with you our finalists’ stories. Read on …
Meet Cortnie
Nashville, TN
I am a newly-single mom of three amazing young children, ranging in ages from 8 months to 5 years old. I have recently gone back to work and I’m finding out it is very hard to work, keep the house organized and clean, and spend quality time with my children. It would help me out so much to have someone come help me get organized so I can spend more time with the kids!
Meet Laura
Franklin, TN
I am a mom of three children (9, 6, and 4) and help my husband who owns his own business. I have always had at least one child at home with me for the last 10 years and never had the time to get my closet in working condition. I keep thinking, if I just had an extra 24 hours where no one needed me, I could at least make a dent in it … but now it’s just an overwhelming task. My husband works 24/7 and gets very frustrated at the lack of space and chaos due to all the clutter. In addition, my elderly parents have moved to Nashville and require a lot of help. I know we have so much to donate, both children’s clothes, shoes, games, as well as adult clothes and shoes—I just can’t even get in the back of the closet to see what I have!
Meet Natasha
Madison, TN
I work two jobs: by day I’m a banker, by night I’m a singer. With having two jobs that require two different types of dress, I have to be organized. Especially when I’m asked to sing at the last minute, I need to be able to go to my closet and find something to wear quickly without having to hunt for it or find it mixed in with my clothes I wear for my day job.
Meet Susannah
Nashville, TN
Maybe you can gather from the photo that my messy closet is also a tiny closet. Yes, indeed: the house is 1300 sq ft; the storage is limited and small. Which means my family of three exists in a constant fight against clutter. All of the closets need triage, but this one has been a special bane of my existence almost since we moved in three years ago. It’s the dumping ground for holiday stuff, futon (a.k.a. guest bed) bedding, gift-wrapping stuff, and lots of other things that have no business seeing the light of day most of the time. It is, in short, a closet that’s easy to neglect. Yet every time I’m forced to open it, I want to weep. How satisfying it would be to open it and observe intelligent space-saving design at work! But we clearly need help in this department. I would love to make brilliantly organized room in here for craft supplies, too — those are seeping out of the holes into which they are crammed (or out of plastic bags slung on doorknobs — YIKES).

Posted at 16:55h, 20 NovemberWe were the lucky winners last year, and it was truly truly amazing! The results have LASTED and has made a tremendous difference in our day to day. Less clutter, better organization = more play time with the kiddos and LESS STRESS! Good luck everyone!
My ever so humble advice to those who don’t win, THINK carefully about your space, what you LOVE and don’t love, if it doesn’t make you smile, or isn’t useful to your home, it can go! AND shop GOODWILL as frequently as you can…you CAN find the items you need to make your home more organized – and give all the extras BACK to Goodwill!
