Employee Spotlight: Jose Ortega

Jose Ortega

I love that, at Goodwill, we can help ex-offenders, people with disabilities, people out of the workforce for a while, etc. to make a difference in their own lives. We offer training and computer classes that make a huge difference in the lives of every client we serve, by helping them build skills they can use in the workforce.

A typical day for me outside of work involves spending time with my family and exploring new places, cities, and states. I love getting in my car and just driving non-stop! (I have gone to Atlanta and Louisville just to watch a comedy show and return the same day. Yup, that’s how much I love to drive.) I enjoy playing wheelchair basketball, love helping around the house, and playing Xbox 360. I also enjoy spending time with my family and my best friend (my wife). Their support motivates me when times are tough.

My favorite part of my job at Goodwill is helping clients accomplish their goals—whether that’s teaching them the skills they need to get that job they want or making sure they have access to the resources they need to find the kind of job that they will wake up and want to go to every morning, just like I do. I have a dream team at my Career Solutions center. We all help each other and have great communication. When every client each in our office, they feel that positive attitude and they know that each one of them has our support to accomplish a goal—that is, getting a job!

Jose Ortega is a career counselor at our Franklin Career Solutions center and the recipient of the 2011 Goodwill 110% Award.
